jacques soddell
sound & video artist
jacques [at] cajid [dot] com
Jacques Soddell is a Bendigo-based sound artist (live performance and installation). He mainly works with field recordings which he often manipulates beyond recognition and layers them to create electroacoustic soundscapes. He sometimes works in 4 channels, and has recently started improvising multilayered images to his soundscapes. He also creates works for live arts group Punctum and choreographer Megan Beckwith. Recent projects include Precipice, Pandemonium Pavillion, The River, Memory Fragment #1, Museum of Lost Sounds (with Paul Fletcher) and I'm Dreaming of a French Meadow (with Jude Anderson, Tara Gilbee & Cedric Peyronnet). He curates experimental music series Undue Noise, runs sound art label cajid media and presents Possible Musics, an experimental music program on local community radio (since 1983). He was an environmental microbiologist in a former life, and retains an interest in sonification of scientific data, and creation of art based on water themes.

frozen moment wading through Cedric Peyronnet's massive collection of sound bites from his Taurion sound map, I paused at the sounds from Pont du Dognon. Recalling the magical frozen pond near the end of Tarkovsky's Solaris, I was drawn to the icy sounds. So this is the piece, using samples from around Pont du Dognon, and manipulating / processing them heavily in my usual fashion. mini cdr kaon.org
